JON'S STORY

On March 4th 2011, Jon Gerhard was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Stage 4 cancerous brain tumor.  Jon suffered a grande mal seizure while at work and was transported to Marin General. The doctors found the tumor and transferred him to UCSF.  At UCSF he had a craniotomy to remove the tumor.  Dr. Mitchell Berger successfully removed 95% of the tumor.  He then started radiation and chemotherapy to kill the remaining tumor. The surgery, radiation and chemotherapy were very hard on Jon physically and emotionally, but he always remained positive and strong. After treatments, Jon had MRIs every 2 months. His MRIs looked good and we were very optimistic about his recovery.

On December 4th, Jon had a migraine- one of the symptoms of brain tumors- and his wife took him to the ER.  There he had a CAT scan, and they found multiple tumors throughout his brain.  The tumors this time are inoperable due to size and location. Jon will be trying a drug infusion called Avastin. The drug is supposed to help shrink the tumors. Glioblastomas grow very quickly, so he really needs this drug to work and shrink the tumors faster than they are growing.

Jon and his wife Jacqueline have been married for 15 years. They have two beautiful children: Dean, who's 12, and Olivia, who's 7. Jon is an amazing father, husband and friend. He is one of the most caring people we know.

With the help of their family and friends, Jon's wife and kids are caring for him full time. Because of this devastating disease, he needs around-the-clock care.  Jon's wife will be his full-time care-giver, but will be unable to work and provide income for the family. They are hoping and praying that the Avastin will help prolong Jon's life, and allow him to be with his family for as long as possible. The doctors aren't giving Jon much time to live due to the severity of his disease. He and his family need help financially to get through this devastating time.
